Summer High School Intern

Intern with the Alongside Team!

We are looking for five high school students or graduating high school seniors who are passionate about de-stigmatizing and supporting youth mental health. This 7 week summer internship will provide a structured introduction to working at a digital mental health company. 

About Alongside

Alongside is a digital health company that is developing an app to support teen mental health. The Alongside app uses an AI supported chatbot to help teens with the daily challenges they face and build new social emotional skills. When they need it, students also have an easy and private way to ask for additional help from their school counselors. Over 5000 teens have already used Alongside. We are a remote team with employees based across the US. 

About this role

The Internship will run from June 19th - August 11th with a week off from July 3rd - July 7th. Interns are expected to work 4 hours a day (20 hours per week) from 12-4pm ET/ 9am-1pm PT. The student interns will complete three different rotations:

Orientation and Brainstorming New Features 
  • Brainstorm new app feature ideas
  • Provide feedback on app features
  • Support gathering additional feedback from other teens
Improving the AI supported chat bot 
  • Providing feedback on existing chats to help improve them
  • Brainstorming ways we can make the chats more engaging
  • Helping edit chats to make sure language is teen friendly 
Developing videos that provide tips or education about mental wellness (2 weeks)
  • Provide input on topics the videos should cover
  • Help edit or provide input on video scripts to make them more appropriate for teens
  • Star in videos as a alongside teen ambassador (optional)

All work will be completed remotely and team meetings are held via zoom. Interns will be directly supervised by Dr. Elsa Friis (Sr. Dir. of Clinical R&D) and Kyle Nacci (Sr. Product Manager). 

Stipend: $1,200 for the internship

Our Ideal Intern:

  • Is passionate about the importance of teen mental health! 
  • Is interested in helping develop content (videos & chats) focusing on supporting other teens dealing with common challenges like bullying, making friends, exploring gender identity, going to a new school, academic stress, dating, anxiety, etc. 
  • Feels comfortable providing direct feedback (you can’t hurt our feelings we promise) 
  • Is able to work independently and is comfortable attending remote team meetings 
  • Experience working in Canva is a bonus!
